Unhooking Mat

Postby alrith72 » Sun Mar 14, 2010 5:35 pm

Hi, i'm a new member to both the club and the forum (have joined for the coming season) and have some concerns about the unhooking mat size. According to the rule book it must be 100cm x 70cms x 5cms. The length and width dimensions i have no problem finding but i'm struggling to find one that matches that depth as most i look at are half that (25mm) :-?
I'm on a fairly limited budget so any links to brands/products that match these dimensions would be gratefully appreciated.

regards

Al.

Welcome to the club mate. It doesn't have to be exactly 5cms, the sizes are a guide to what should be used. It should be thick enough to provide adequate protection to the fish. To many members think it is acceptable to lay 20lb carp on mats that are no thicker than a sheet of cardboard - we are trying to promote fish welfare.
Look at chub, trakker, nash etc

There is a chub one i've been looking at, plenty big enough width and length wise but just a little shy depth wise but a quality looking mat. I'm all for fish welfare so no wories on that front, thanks for the advice and the welcome. Also i like your avatar

Probably start at Great Oakley as this is quite near to where i live. My dad has joined too and we both enjoy all types of fishing and enjoy a carp session as much as a pleasure session. Olivers also looks a nice venue with a good all round attraction. What would be the best venue for my dad to stand a chance of a big tench?

We've just put some tench into Oakley Match Lake, although there was nothing massive. Inworth has also been stocked with some tench to 5lb. Olivers has tench to about 5lb as well

Bov 2 is the place for very big tench but it does get very busy from now until the end of the summer. Snake also has big tench and regulary throws out decent bags to the early morning anglers - gets a bit busy with the carp boys but should still be able to get a swim and catch.

Just noticed that the depth requirements had been changed on the main website. A good move i think, opens up alot more options for people of which mat to buy/use. I couldn't find one the original 5cm stated.
